Ocho Cascadas Refurbishment/Renovation/Re-Sale, Page 1 of 3

Refurbishment & Renovation Overview

First, a bit of history. When Ocho Cascadas was originally sold as a timeshare resort back in 1982, the weeks were sold on a "Right-To-Use" (RTU) basis, and that RTU contract expired at the end of 2009. Then, the resort owners (the wife & sons of the original architect/builder Ed Giddings) agreed to extend the RTU for another three years (2010-2013). But that usage period ended as well, and the resort closed (temporarily).

Now, for the exciting news. The resort was completely refurbished & renovated. It is now being sold as a timeshare resort again, but this time forever (i.e. in perpetuity)! The resort has been enhanced and upgraded with many improvements such as:

  • Air-conditioned bedrooms
  • Enlarged second bedroom
  • More ceiling fans in the living area
  • New plumbing
  • New grounded (3-prong) electrical wiring
  • Granite countertops
  • Stainless-steel kitchen appliances
  • Non-slip stone tile flooring
  • Additional overhead lighting
  • Beautiful accent lighting

New elevator

One of the biggest upgrades to the resort was the very clever design for an elevator! On the upper street, next to the Penthouse, a new Lobby was built, with wide-open views of the Bay, a check-in area, a concierge desk, guest computers, flat panel TV, and an entrance to the first-stage elevator that will go down to villas 9, 8, 7 & 6. At level six, you exit that elevator, and walk over to the second-stage elevator that goes to villas 5,4,3,& 2 and the lower street.

This new elevator resolves the one concern that has prevented some people from buying a week at the resort... those imposing and frighteningly-steep stairs. Now, people of all ages and physical conditions can enjoy this incredible resort.

Villa Renovation

The photos on this page (taken by professional photographer Josef Kandoll, and used here with permission of The Giddings Company) show the renovated Villa 4, providing a nice overview of the upgrades. All the photos can be clicked on to display a larger view. The second page contains additional photos I've taken that show the upgrades in more detail, and the third page contains information on purchasing a week at "the new Ocho Cascadas."

New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 pool area New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 living area
This is the view as you enter the villa. Notice the new pool tiles, with darker tiles marking the edges of the steps. Also notice the wider ledge with a lounging cushion. Here you can see the new non-slip stone tile flooring, and the new curtain that can be drawn across the living area to provide shade from the late afternoon sun.

New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 dining area New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 hammock area with glass block privacy wall
From the dining area, you can see the new ceiling fan in the kitchen, and the two new ceiling fans under the thatched palapa roof. Also notice how the kitchen divider has been heightened a few inches to hide the backs of the various small appliances sitting on the kitchen counter. At the far end of the villa, the old thatched privacy wall has been replaced with this beautiful glass block wall. Stone trim has been added to the step-up into the bedroom on the right to make the step more visible.

The openings above the bedroom walls have been glassed-in to allow for air-conditioning. The bathrooms have been re-tiled, with new sinks, fixtures, mirrors and lighting. But they still have that giant open-air shower.

New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 guest bedroom glass doors New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 guest bathroom
The second bedroom had the entire outer wall replaced with glass doors, making the room bright and airy. And now it has air-conditioning as well. A privacy curtain can be drawn across the doors. The guest bathrooms got granite countertops with new sinks, fixtures, mirrors and lighting. And the water heater is now hidden away out-of-sight.

New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 thatched palapa roof night lighting fans New Ocho Cascadas Villa 4 wall sconce accent lights night
The thatched palapa roof now has two lighted ceiling fans, as well as new hanging lamps and landscape lighting for the plant beds. Here you can see the new wall sconce accent lighting.

The next page contains additional photos showing the upgrades in more detail, and the page after that contains information on purchasing or renting a week at "The New Ocho Cascadas."
