In early October 2003 we exchanged our Marriott Desert Springs timeshare for the Casa Ybel Resort on Sanibel Island in southwestern Florida. Sanibel is known for the great shell-collecting on its beaches, and the miles of paved bike paths throughout the island.

The resort is located on the south-facing beach near the eastern end of the island.

This view of the resort entrance driveway shows the profusion of flowers blooming even late in the year.

The resort grounds were lushly landscaped, and were a great spot for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

Here are a cormorant and turtle enjoying some sun (or maybe they're admiring their reflections in the calm water).

Hammocks are always enjoyable, but Chris was a little concerned about how close to the ground this particular hammock hung...

... because of the resident gator swimming around the little island where the hammock was located.
