Several movies have been filmed on Kauai. You may recognize these peaks from the opening scenes of Raiders of the Lost Ark. | And Lumahai Beach served as the "Nurses' Beach" in South Pacific. |
The incredible Kalalau Valley showed up in both Jurassic Park movies. | The sculpted cliffs of Kalalau are truly awe-inspiring. |
Much of Kauai is inaccessible by car, because of the rugged terrain. A boat ride to view the Na Pali coast, up-close-and-personal, is a must! | An even more exciting way to see some parts of the island is to take a helicopter ride! |
The highlight of the air tour is when the helicopter flies inside the volcano crater of Mt. Wai Ale Ale, "the wettest spot on Earth," where it rains over 400 inches per year. As the helicopter flies under the clouds, inside the crater, you are hovering in a magical green place, surrounded by dozens of ribbon-like waterfalls. It's an experience we'll never forget! | |
The beautiful Waimea Canyon is often called "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific," and it's easy to see why. |
The photo to the left was taken from the helicopter, but this
was from a Scenic Overlook on the drive to Kalalau Valley.
