In September 2007 we traveled to San Luis Obispo, CA. The main reasons for the trip were to attend the I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival, visit some wineries, and celebrate Chris' 50th birthday. For part of the trip, we were joined by our friends Fred & Mary, and also celebrated Mary's birthday. Click on any of these photos to see a larger version.

We stayed at the Garden Street Inn bed & breakfast, perfectly located downtown within walking distance of almost everything.
This is the library of the inn, where we enjoyed a wine & cheese reception every evening. We met many interesting people there, most of whom stayed only one night.

This is the dining room of the inn, where they served a full hot breakfast every morning. The breakfast menu was different each day.
On our first evening in town, we attended the Thursday Night Farmers Market. On this particular week, it was actually more of a wild "welcome back" party for the returning college students.

On Friday we visited the little town of Avila Beach, which has a very interesting history of demolition and rebuilding.
The main beachfront street is now a pedestrian-only plaza.
The plaza is decorated with various works of public art.
Even the stone benches are adorned with little bronze sculptures of starfish and seashells.
