The World War II Memorial consists of a large fountain surrounded by pillars for every state. We wanted to pose by the California pillar, but it didn't have this view of the Washington Monument in the background.

We headed towards the Washington Monument in the last rays of the setting sun, and then the strangest thing happened... The Director of the Lincoln Highway National Museum approached us, saying he needed someone to dress as the Statue of Liberty, to help commemorate the 92nd anniversary of the Lincoln Highway. Since it happened to be Halloween, Linda gladly volunteered!

By the time we were done posing with the Washington Monument, the sun had set, and we had this great view of the Capitol building at night. And so ended our first busy day in DC, with a nice dinner at the Thunder Grill in Union Station.

The following morning, we headed to the Old Post Office Building, whose Tower had a nice view of the Capitol. I was surprised at the number of neighboring office buildings that had landscaped roofs with trees and patio tables.
