As we raced back down the bike path in the fading light to return our rental bikes, we couldn't resist stopping for this view of the Lincoln Memorial at sunset.

And so our second day in DC ended with this magnificent sunset view of the Washington Monument reflected in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

The next morning, as we headed to the Capitol for a tour, we passed this nice view of it in a Reflecting Pool.

While waiting outside the Capitol for our tour to begin, we enjoyed seeing the Capitol Dome through the fall foliage.

Under one of the trees, we found what we jokingly called a Congressman's brain (actually, it's the fruit of a hedge apple tree).

Here is the view of the National Mall, just before entering the Capitol.

Upon entering the Capitol Rotunda, your eyes are immediately drawn up to the soaring domed ceiling.
|
The Capitol Rotunda walls are lined with paintings and sculptures depicting American history.
